Let's begin

The basic principle of a webpage is its content and design. Creating content requires CMS (Content Management System). Creating design requires dividing the entire webpage content in containers and spreading these containers in display area. There are basically three types of devices:

It is good to think about these types of devices before you start creating a template.

The first step is a template draft (visualisation) with regards to both wide, medium and small devices.

Templates are stored in /templates folder in your CMSimple_XH installation. A template is stored in a subfolder e.g. /templates/my-template.

A template is made by two files: template.htm and stylesheet.css. If there are used any graphics in the template, these are saved in /templates/my-template/images. If there are used special fonts, additional scripts etc., they are stored also in /templates/my-template directly or in their own folders. The template related folder is then about like this:

2lang

assets

cmsimple

content

plugins

templates

my-template

fonts

images

scripts

media

stylesheet.css

template.htm

userfiles

index.php

Create necessary folders and files. Both the stylesheet.css and template.html can be simply written in any text editor. Important is the encoding UTF 8 without BOM.

There is a plenty of available editors. More info...

It is also necessary the know basic HTML and CSS languages. However, there are many good tutorials online. Or you may read CMSimple_XH forum and follow links inits footer boxes.
